BPW HOLDS SCHOLARSHIP RECEPTION

Business and Professional Women of North Sarasota held its scholarship reception on Thursday, May 9th at the Betty J. Johnson North Sarasota Public Library. Four young ladies were presented with and build connections. Maicy also graduated from Booker High School with a 4.35 GPA. She has been accepted to Howard University and plans to major in finance. Her goal is to obtain a Master’s Degree in Business Management and a minor in Musical Theatre. She would like to start her own production business in the entertainment industry and help discover and develop young talent, just as she was. Jada graduated from Sarasota High School with a 3.7 GPA. She will attend the University of South Florida to major in Mass Communication with a minor in Marketing. Jada was a part of the news crew when she attended Gulf Gate Elementary School and she continued to pursue this venture in high school. She has taken media studies classes and was a part of the yearbook staff for the past two years. She plans to seek a career in broadcasting. Destiny graduated from Bayshore High School with a 4.25 GPA. She will attend Florida Gulf Coast University majoring in Biology (Pre-Med). Her career choice is to work in the medical field as a pediatrician and eventually open up her own practice. This year, BPW/North Sarasota will celebrate 47 years as an advocate for working scholarships to colleges and institutions of higher learning of their choice.
Scholarship recipients were Chellesy Foster, Maicy Powell, Jada Robinson and Destiny Womack. Chellesy graduated from Booker High School where she maintained a 4.5 GPA. She will attend the University of Florida and major in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology. Her ultimate goal is to become a physician and specialize in sports medicine. After earning her undergraduate degree, she plans to attend the University of Florida medical school and use the university’s athletic teams as a way to intern, network, en in the community. Founded in 1919, Business and Professional Women is the oldest and largest organization of working women in this country.
