 Tempo News’ goal is to fairly and objectively report events affecting the citizens of Sarasota and Manatee Counties. We are The Beat of the Working Class.

In reporting the news, Tempo News will continuously strive to be inclusive of stories covering all elements of our community with a special focus on issues affecting the African-American population.

Our primary goal is to improve understanding and appreciation between the races by bridging the social, cultural, economic and political gaps that now exist, eventually creating a more harmonious environment for all of our citizens to enjoy. We will do this my always reaching out to every segment of our community.

Newtown Resident Johnny Hunter Talks About The Importance Of Black Newspapers

Newtown resident Johnny Hunter grew up in the Sarasota community and plans to spend the rest of his life there. He left the area for a while, but returned as an adult and went on to co-publish Tempo News, a weekly African American newspaper that has been in the Sarasota-Manatee region since 1987.

As part of our Telling Tampa Bay stories on Newtown, Hunter talks about the newspaper’s importance in the community and why he’ll never leave the neighborhood. LISTEN TO INTERVIEW WITH JOHNNY HUNTER
