Free workshops in Sarasota and Bradenton offered students guidance on researching and applying for scholarships.

The Gamma Rho Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, partnered with Five Pearls of Excellence to hold free scholarship-application workshops for students in Sarasota and Manatee counties.

The Sarasota session took place October 10 at the Betty J. Johnson North Sarasota Library. The Manatee County session followed October 17 at Central Library in Bradenton. Both workshops were designed for high school seniors and other college-bound students.

The chapter said the workshops were created in response to concerns about low scholarship-application rates in the area. Sessions focused on helping students understand the application process, research opportunities and prepare stronger applications. Guest panelists shared insights on academic success and application strategies, with time for students to ask questions.

The Sarasota workshop was held at the Betty J. Johnson North Sarasota Library, 2801 Newtown Blvd. The Bradenton workshop took place at Central Library, 1301 Barcarrota Blvd. W.

Joyce Oates chaired the effort. Rebecca McCall is president of the Gamma Rho Zeta Chapter.

The chapter welcomes students interested in future scholarship workshops. For more information, email
