Dwight Gilmer: Head Basketball Coach At Braden River

Dwight Gilmer is the head boys basketball coach at Braden River High School, a position he has held since the 2022-2023 season. He is in his third year at Braden River. In addition to being the basketball coach, Gilmer is also a Dean of Students within the school system, a position he has held for three years. He has been with the school district for 12 years.

A seasoned coach, Gilmer has been coaching basketball for 19 years. He was JV coach at Riverview High School in Hillsborough County, JV coach at Southeast High School, and varsity head coach at Bayshore High School. A player himself, he played high school, college and semi-professional basketball. He believes basketball is a microcosm of life, and that the lessons learned through the game will serve his players forever. “I have been involved with the game for more than 30 years and it has taught me some of my most valued lessons,” he said.

“Through basketball, I have learned accountability, hard work, perseverance, determination, how to relate with others, how to be a part of a team and so much more. I use these lessons to impact my students-athletes to help them become the best versions of themselves possible.”

Coach Gilmer has a vision for his program and the boys – and students – that he mentors. “My vision for our program is based on our four Pillars of Success: 1) Faith and Family – the foundation for everything we do; 2) Discipline – how we do one thing is how we will do all things; 3) the Pursuit of Excellence which says that nobody is perfect, however, we will try everything to be our absolute best; and 4) Service – you can have everything in life you want, if you just help other people get what they want” – words from Zig Ziglar.

A graduate of Southeast High School, Gilmer received an A.A. degree in Liberal Arts from Manatee Community College and a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He is the owner of TEAM Intl. Consulting and Triple H Athletics and is a mentor in Take Stock in Children. A member of the Crossing Church in Ruskin, Coach Gilmer enjoys spending time with his family, listening to music, reading, and, of course, basketball.

Braden River’s basketball season kicks off on Monday, Oct. 28th.
