FAMU NATIONAL ALUMNI HONORS HENRY LAWRENCE WITH DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD

Henry “Killer” Lawrence was recently recognized with the Distinguished Alumni Award presented by the FAMU National Alumni Association, Inc. (FAMU NAA). Lawrence was one of 16 recognized for their outstanding service and distinguished careers during the Distinguished Alumni Awards black-tie gala held on May 17th. The gala was one of the highlights of the four-day FAMU National Alumni Association Annual Convention held at the Hyatt-Regency Birmingham The Wynfrey Hotel. Lawrence was a two-time All America Football player at Florida A&M University who had an all pro career with the Oakland and Los Angeles Raiders (1974-1986), winning three Super Bowls. He is the only player from FAMU to be drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft. Lawrence was also inducted into the FAMU Sports Hall of Fame and his #78 jersey has been retired. Each year, FAMU NAA celebrates and acknowledges supportive alumni who have distinguished themselves in their respective professions. The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest award bestowed by the FAMU NAA. This accolade recognizes alumni who have made notable and documented contributions to the University (finance, recruitment, etc.), their professions and/ or categories. FAMU NAA promotes the continuous active interest in and support of Florida A&M University, fostering a spirit of loyalty, fraternity and scholarship. With over 60 chapters located throughout the country, the FAMU NAA has provided over $2 million in scholarship money and other financial support to Florida A&M University.
