Legendary Booker High Coach Fred Gilmore Passes
Legendary coach and friend of the community, Fred Gilmore, passed away on Friday, September 12th. Coach Gilmore was an iconic figure at Booker High School where he was head football coach for ten years from 2002-2012. He coached the Tornadoes to the state championship game during the 2005 season.
Booker High School referred to him as a
“pillar of strength, wisdom, and heart for generations of students, athletes, and staff. His impact is immeasurable, his legacy undeniable.”
Gilmore graduated from BHS in 1984, and later returned to his alma mater where he was coach in football, baseball and weightlifting for 32 years. For a time, he was the school’s athletic director.
No information was available at press time about arrangements or special ceremonies being planned in his honor.
