LITTLE MEDICAL SCHOOL: INSPIRING YOUNG MINDS
On July 1st of this year, Shauniece Lee launched a Little Medical School – LMS – here on the Suncoast. “I knew that if afforded the opportunity, parents, educators, and philanthropist would be supportive of this innovative programming for our community,” Lee said. “In Sarasota and Manatee counties, some of our largest employers are hospitals and jobs in the healthcare sector. This is the ideal time to invest in inspiring the future of our healthcare here where we call home.” LMS’s curriculum is geared for kids ages 4 to 14. The program offers an abundance of courses and study breaks; a flexible curriculum can be from as little as a one-hour session to a 6-week curriculum.
“We believe a curriculum based on STEM will provide students with a strong foundation to pursue careers in medicine,”
Lee said, “whether utilizing Science to understand anatomy, Technology to better utilize patient information, Engineering to develop solutions to complex medical issues, or Math to calculate the proper dose of medication. Health and STEM are inseparable. Yet, beyond our focus on learning and critical thinking, our most important function is to INSPIRE a greater understanding of health and career options.”
Much of LMS’s curriculum can be used to enrich and compound understanding of the science benchmarks being taught within the county schools. LMS operates mobile, inspiring and educating students along the southwest corridor of Florida with a focus here in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. Currently, LMS is partnering with a few Sarasota County schools including Wilkinson Elementary School, Bay Haven School of Basics Plus, and Suncoast School of Innovative Studies – elementary campus. “We are also seeking other partners to offer programming,” Lee said.
“We also offer after-school programming, birthday parties, scout badges, home school enrichment, camps and more.”
Since LMS Suncoast is in its infancy, Lee is involved in everything from instructing classes, business operations and brand awareness.
Lee, a franchise owner of Little Medical School Suncoast, has spent more than a decade serving those in need through non-profit medical organizations such as Pines of Sarasota and Tidewell Hospice while gaining her extensive credentials.
