Rogers Church To Host Fun And Wellness Fair on Saturday July 30th
Rogers Community United Methodist Church will host a Family Fun and Wellness Fair on Saturday, July 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will be held at the church located at 1100 15th Street East in Bradenton.
Participants will enjoy Mr. Chip “Magic Man”, a bounce house and a fire truck; there will be giveaways including food, books and school supplies, and a DJ will be on hand, and much more. Also available will be dental checks, free blood and glucose checks, immunizations and haircuts by Real Vision Barber Academy. Career information from representatives from MTC and Career Source Suncoast and mental health information from representatives from Centerstone will also be available.
This is the first wellness fair hosted by the church. “We hope this can become an annual event,” said Lynette Edwards, one of the event coordinators.
“We recently revised our community outreach plan for the church which focused more on the needs of the community around the church. Each year, we use MissionInsite to gather information on community needs within a certain radius of the church and those needs form our outreach pillars: feeding the needy, academic and computer literacy skills, career development and physical and mental health. The providers we have invited provide services or resources in one or more of these areas,”
Edwards said.
Over 100 community members are expected to attend the event. “We feel it’s important to offer outreach programs focused on the needs of those who are within our mission field especially but also to others who can benefit from these services,” Edwards said. “Our mission statement focuses us on reaching out beyond the walls of the church to help enrich the lives of those not necessarily in our membership as well as our members.”
The wellness fair has been planned through cooperative effort of the Leadership Team of the church. There are four Pillar Group leaders who have worked with a team of members to plan and execute the activities, Cheryl Steele, Monique Saunders, Betty Gibson and Edwards, with support from other members of the Leadership Team.
Rev. Dr. Joreatha M. Capers is pastor. For additional information, call 941-747-4361 or email RogersUM@verizon.net.
