SHANTIA GRACE’S JERSEY RETIRED AT USF

Shantia Grace has an impressive resume’ from her high school and college basketball careers.  At Riverview High School, she was a star prep player and is still the school’s career scoring leader, for boys and girls, with 2,446 points.  She was rated one of the top 75 players in the country following her senior year.  Her career at the University of South Florida was just as impressive as she still remains the Bulls’ all-time assist leader and still tops the Bulls’ career charts in assists and starts.  She also set the USF single-game record with 44 points.  In November 2019, Grace was inducted to the USF athletic hall of fame, becoming the third women’s basketball player to be inducted.

On February 9th, 2020, the USF women’s basketball program retired Grace’s jersey number 3 during the Bulls’ halftime game against Temple University.  Retiring the number of an athlete is an honor a team bestows upon a player who had a highly memorable career with the team.  Once a number is retired, no future player from the team may wear that number on their uniform, unless the player so-honored permits it.  Retired jerseys are often referred to as “hanging from the rafters” as they are, literally, put to hang in the team’s home arena.

Grace currently serves as girls basketball coach at Booker High School.
