Sherrin K. Mapps (Obituary)

Sherrin K. Mapps was the second oldest child born to Dr. April Jones Glasco and Elder John Mapps, Jr. She was born in Bradenton, Florida on May 7, 1985 and attended Booker High School where she graduated in 2003. After high school, Sherrin continued her education at Bethune Cookman University where she graduated cum laude and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. She went on to receive a Master of Science (MSN) as a Nurse Practitioner from South University. She was employed in the nursing field for over 20 years, beginning her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and ended her career as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Sherrin loved everything about nursing. It was her calling and her passion. She enjoyed teaching people about nursing and making a difference in so many lives. Her greatest joy was her love for God, her family and speaking life into others. Her life was a testament to the power of purpose and compassion. She touched countless lives with her healing presence and inspired others with her gifted voice. With unwavering courage, she shared her heart to uplift those struggling to find their path. Her voice rang out in church choirs, groups, and as a soloist, spreading hope and joy to everyone.

On July 4, 2025, Sherrin departed this life. She is survived by her mother, Dr. April Glasco; her father, Elder John Mapps, Jr.; three sisters, Sherral Mapps Johnson (Emmanuel); Sianda Mapps and Shaquess Mapps; her grandfathers, Rev. John Mapps, Sr. and Elder Clinton Jones, (Edie). Though she did not have children of her own, she leaves nieces and nephews who were like her children, and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and sorrowing friends.

A viewing will be held on Friday, July 18th at Bethel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 1719 22nd Street in Sarasota. A private viewing for family will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and the public viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A fish fry will be held at the Second Chance Last Opportunity (SCLO) Women’s Center, 10323 4 Colleton Drive, Sarasota from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. Monetary and other donations are greatly appreciated and can be made to SCLO.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Happy Gospel Church, 1915 53rd Avenue East in Bradenton. Family and friends are asked to wear white and blue. The burial will follow at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Avenue, Sarasota, Florida 34232. The repass will be held at Happy Gospel.
