SMH Named Among America’s Best Employers for Women in 2024
Sarasota, FL – Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMH) has once again been named as one of America’s Best Employers for Women, ranking #7 in the nation.
Forbes, in collaboration with Statista, identified the 600 Best Employers for Women through an extensive independent survey of more than 150,000 women working for companies with at least 1,000 employees across a range of industries in the U.S.
The surveyed employees, representing more than 20 industries, were asked to share opinions about their respective employer’s culture, image, opportunities for career development, working conditions, salary and wages and diversity.
Overall, SMH ranked #7 amongst the 600 companies recognized, and #3 in the “Healthcare & Social Services” sector nationally. This recognition adds to SMH’s growing list of accolades, including several “Best Hospital” rankings and recent ratings from U.S. News & World Report released just last week.
David Verinder, CEO of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, attributes these achievements to SMH’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, supported by strong leadership.
“I take great pride in working with such a dedicated and compassionate team,” Verinder said. “Our vision has always been to be the best place for patients, the best workplace, and the best environment for practicing medicine. We are grateful to be recognized for our commitment to excellence in these areas.”
Sarasota County Board Chair Sarah Lodge commended SMH for its dedication to creating an inclusive workplace. With more than 70% of SMH’s leadership team being women, including more than half of its directors and executive team, she noted the commitment to diversity is integral to the hospital’s success.
“As the largest employer in Sarasota County, and the region’s only community-owned public hospital, the success of the workforce is vital to the care provided to our community,” Lodge said. “SMH has done an outstanding job with effective hiring practices, family-friendly policies, and leadership development opportunities.”
