Suncoast Women of Action and All Faiths Food Bank Distribute 50 Turkeys to Sarasota Families

In the spirit of community and compassion, Suncoast Women of Action partnered with All Faiths Food Bank to provide 50 turkeys to local families in Sarasota ahead of the holiday season. The giveaway—held as part of both organizations’ ongoing mission to support food security and strengthen community ties—brought together volunteers, families, and local leaders for a morning focused on giving and gratitude.
The distribution served families who might otherwise struggle to afford a traditional holiday meal. With rising food costs and growing demand for assistance across the region, the event offered not just nourishment but also a sense of hope and connection.
Representatives from Suncoast Women of Action emphasized the importance of ensuring that families can celebrate the holidays with dignity, while All Faiths Food Bank highlighted how collaborative efforts like this one make a meaningful impact on hunger relief in Sarasota County.
“Through this partnership, it has been a pleasure to provide members of the community with healthy food for Thanksgiving for the past 5 years,” says Helen James, the President of Suncoast Women of Action.
For many recipients, the turkey giveaway was more than a charitable act—it was a reminder that the community is committed to supporting one another. As the holiday season approaches, events like this continue to strengthen the bonds that make Sarasota a caring and resilient community.
The recent cuts to SNAP benefits make community events like the Suncoast Women of Action and All Faiths Food Bank turkey giveaway even more vital. With many families receiving less assistance for groceries, the cost of preparing a holiday meal can become overwhelming. A donated turkey isn’t just food— it’s relief from financial strain, a chance to celebrate tradition, and a reminder that the community is here to support those facing hardship. As households adjust to reduced SNAP funding, local giveaways help fill critical gaps, ensuring that families can still gather, share a meal, and experience dignity and hope during the holiday season.
The giveaway was held at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
