Suncoast Women of Action Hosts 11th Annual Luncheon featuring Keynote Speaker VAL DEMINGS

Theme: “Remembering the Past to Ensure the Future”

Sarasota, FL — The Suncoast Women of Action held its 11th Annual Luncheon on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Michael’s on East. This year ’s powerful theme, “Remembering the Past to Ensure the Future,” set the stage for an inspiring and action-oriented afternoon, headlined by renowned keynote speaker Val Demings, former U.S. Representative and trailblazing law enforcement leader.

Each year, the Suncoast Women of Action brings together community leaders, advocates, and change makers to honor local achievements, reflect on historical milestones, and galvanize efforts toward a more equitable and inclusive future. This year’s luncheon continued that tradition with renewed urgency and visio .

“We were honored to welcome Val Demings as our keynote speaker,” said Helen James, President of Suncoast Women of Action.

“Her life story and leadership exemplify courage, integrity, and the unwavering commitment to justice that aligns with our mission. Her voice will continue to inspire and challenge us as we reflect on where we’ve come from and where we’re going.”

Val Demings, the first female Chief of Police in Orlando and a former candidate for U.S. Senate, has become a national symbol of resilience, public service, and transformative leadership. Her presence energized attendees and elevated conversations around civic engagement, women’s empowerment, and community-building.

Proceeds from the luncheon will support ongoing Suncoast Women of Action programs focused on political education, voting, youth mentorship, leadership development, and civic advocacy across Manatee and Sarasota counties.

This year ’s SWOA 11th Annual Luncheon Award Honorees were Helen Dixon, Barbara Ford-Coates, Lucie Lapovsky, Vilia Johnson, Sheila Sanders, and Shirley Taylor Shaw. The President’s Award was given to The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, Public Education Network (PEN) Sarasota, All Faiths Food Bank, the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, and Bay First National Bank.
