SWAC Undefeated!! Rattlers Put Away Wildcats at The Florida Classic

No. 7 Florida A&M continued its domination in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), winning 15 consecutive, and 8 this season, remaining to keep an undefeated win streak and a third consecutive Florida Blue Florida Classic victory. However, this competition at Camping World Stadium, like most at the annual event, was certainly not an easy win but more so a slow grind and testament to the running game of the Rattlers, led by Terrell Jennings. FAMU earned the win, final score 24-7.

In a game whereas penalties, halted some sure scoring drives, the Florida A&M Rattlers were able to seal the deal in the 4th quarter against in-state rival, Bethune Cookman Wildcats. The Football Championship Subdivision Coaches Poll seventh-ranked Florida A&M Rattlers were able to keep an undefeated record in what may be a historic season on a quest to win the SWAC Championship, and a possible trip to Atlanta for the Celebration Bowl.

The Rattlers (10-1, 8-0 SWAC) are head coached by Willie Simmons, who’s in his sixth year, going into its first SWAC Championship game, clinching the East Division title. Coach Simmons has never experienced a losing season with the Rattlers, only winning at least 9 games the last 4 full seasons.

However, the Wildcats had some early preseason turmoil when it was initially led believe that National Football League’s Hall of Famer Ed Reed was the head coach. But it was apparently some internal conflicts, and the coaching search continued until they went with a local favorite and Bethune Cookman alumni. So, this was the first Classic for former Palmetto Hight Coach, Raymond Woodie Jr, in his inaugural season as head coach for the BCU Wildcats (3-8, 2-6 SWAC). The Wildcats (3-8, 2-6 SWAC) are led under Coach Woodie Jr.

FAMU owns the all-time head-to-head record over B-CU 53-24-1
