24th Annual Scholarship Luncheon Celebrates Scholarship Support That’s Changing Futures

Bradenton, FL State College of Florida Foundation’s 24th Annual Scholarship Luncheon, sponsored by Suncoast Federal Credit Union, will take place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at Michael’s On East, 1212 East Ave. S., Sarasota. State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) President Tommy Gregory will preside for the first time at this cornerstone event. This year’s theme is “Scholarships Change Futures.” The community is invited to attend, and proceeds will benefit SCF’s student scholarships and programs. Tickets are $100.

The event will feature an SCF Presidential String Quartet performance, SCF student scholarship recipient and speaker Brittany DeMars, a scholarship pinning ceremony, and a paddle raise to further support student scholarships. Donors will also have an opportunity to meet with students who have received scholarships that made their education journeys possible.

DeMars’ story is a testament to the life-changing impact of scholarships. As a single mother of two boys, she has managed to pursue her nursing degree at SCF while being the sole provider for her family.

“I went from being a married stay-at-home mom to a full – time employee, student and single parent,” said DeMars. “Obtaining my nursing degree will be a huge step forward for my boys and me, and SCF Foundation donors have made that possible.”
