Manasota ASALH Awards 21 Scholarships During Awards Program

The Manasota Branch of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) recently held its Annual Academy Scholarship Awards Program. The event was held at the newly renovated Family Heritage House Museum on the campus of State College of Florida. The Association awarded 21 scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Manatee and Sarasota counties. The scholarship monies raised during the annual Randy Rankin Scholarship Classic are augmented by named scholarships created by generous donations from members and supporters. In addition to the Randy Rankin Scholarship, other scholarships awarded include the Lynch-Pepin Scholarship, the Ambassador Joseph M. Segars Scholarship, the Cheryl Watkins Snead Legacy Scholarship and the Morrie Tharps Scholarship. Dr. LaShawn Frost, Principal from Booker Middle School, was the keynote speaker. This year scholarship award recipients are: Moenasia K. Beall, Kaitlin Bell, Cristen Cabrera, Sandro Dor, Aaliyah Everette, Chellesy Foster, Zhameera Fuller, Kiara Harris, Jawan Hayes, Phylicia Hill, Amaris Holliman, DeAsia Ige, Betty Jean, Asheley Mayes, Alexa Grace Myers, Maicy Powell, Mariana Regis, Danielle Smith, Destiny Womack, Aaliah Wright, and Bezawit Zewdie.
