BROTHER II BROTHER MEN’S BREAKFAST ON JUNE 4th
Brother II Brother Alliance, LLC will host the 4th Annual Men’s Breakfast on Saturday, June 4th from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The breakfast will be held at the 13th Avenue Dream Center, 922 24th Street East in Bradenton. The theme is “Accountability and Responsibility.”
Brother II Brother Alliance is a community service group whose purpose is to empower and connect fathers with children in their communities and build a strong network of productive men from all walks of life. “We are inspired to empower others, ignite hope and hold men accountable toward family, community and self-sufficiency,” said Omar Edwards, president. “We engage in partnerships and educational programs to develop strong male relationships with sons, students and other professionals,” he said. “Brother II Brother’s goal is to ensure all students at Florida high schools and colleges are “relevant, successful, and part of a championship pedigree” with the ability to achieve their dreams. We consider education to be an important building block for healthy families and healthy communities,” Edwards continued.
Guest speakers are Stanley B. Cromartie and Wengay Newton. A native of Bradenton, Cromartie is currently the Athletic Director at Polk State College. Cromartie. He previously served at his alma mater, Edward Waters College, as the Associate Athletic Director and Athletic Director. Cromartie began his athletic playing career at Southeast High School (1978-1982)., lettering in basketball and baseball. He played basketball for Manatee Junior College (now State College of Florida) in 1982. In 2015, he was inducted to the State College of Florida Hall of Fame and into the Florida College System Activities Association Hall of Fame in 2018. He is 1990 graduate of Edward Waters College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration.
Newton was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida. After graduating from Northeast High School in 1981 he attended ITT Technical Institute where he received an Associate Arts Degree in Electronics Engineering in 1983. He began an 18-year career with Xerox Corporation in 1983 as a Senior Printing Systems Engineer. Newton was elected to St. Petersburg City Council in 2007 and re-elected to a second term in 2011. After eight years of governance, he reached his term limit and was then elected to the Florida House of Representatives in November 2016 and re-elected August 2018 to a second term, completing 12 consecutive years of governance. He is currently a candidate for State House District 62.
