The Masala Giving Circle Partnered with Dollar Dynasty to Giveaway Toys and School Supplies
On December 19, 2020, The Masala Giving Circle partnered with Dollar Dynasty, Inc. to distribute toys, books, school supplies and other needed items to children in the Newtown community. Masala members donated over $2,000 in cash as well as seventeen bicycles, 150 books, and almost 200 toys to seventy neighborhood children. Masala also donated $1,500 to Meals on Wheels Plus of Manatee to support African American/Black communities in need of food during the COVID-19 crisis. The Food Bank of Manatee, a program of Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee, is ensuring that essential nutrition is available to homebound seniors, children, and families who do not have access to meals.
The mission of the Masala Giving Circle is to promote economic and personal empowerment through financial support for programs and initiatives that benefit African American/Black communities in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. The Masala Giving Circle was founded in 2013 through the Community Foundation of Sarasota and has 70 members. Dr. Caryl Sheffield, the group’s president, applauds the organization’s tradition of giving back to the community. She stated that the women of Masala are grateful to be able to provide support to families in Sarasota and Manatee Counties, especially during this time when the needs are so great.
