Liam Ordonez, Achiever Panel Moderator

2015 Statewide Demand Occupation List, a report released by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO), health care jobs are in high demand, in Florida and nationwide. Which health care careers are most in demand? What qualities and skills must you have to be successful? Do you need 4 or more years of education? How much money can you make? How does one prepare for a career in health? Is a career in health right for you? Not interested in health or medicine? What are some related occupations? By attending this career cluster, you will get the answer to these questions and many more. Mark Your Calendar. On Saturday, December 15, from 10:00 – 1:00, the Sarasota Family YMCA Achievers will host its fourth Annual Medical and Health Career Cluster at the North Sarasota Public Library (NSPL), located at 2801 Newtown Blvd. The focus of this year’s cluster is alternative health/ medical careers and high paying careers that require less than 4 years of schooling. The cluster is FREE and open to any student, parent, or guardian wanting to learn more about this fast growing field. Light lunch will be served. As in the past, the cluster is designed to increase student awareness regarding health careers and the vast number of opportunities existing now and well into the future. The cluster is divided into 2 segments. In segment 1, Mrs. Joan Dixon, Student Programs Coordinator at Gulfcoast South Area Health Education Center (AHEC), will provide a thorough overview of health careers, specific educational requirements, salary and future occupational outlook in Florida and nationwide. Part 2 will be a panel of professionals in medical/health fields requiring less than 4 years of schooling. The panel will be moderated by Achiever, Liam Ordonez, an honor student and senior at Sarasota High School. Career clusters are the primary vehicles used by the Y-Achievers to introduce pre-teens and teens to a variety of career fields in which adults in those fields provide stimulating workshops and seminars that give students an opportunity to learn about various fields that they might not have otherwise considered.
