BEE LEARNING CENTER OPENS IN NEWTOWN COMMUNITY

By C.S. Howard

Bridges to Educational Excellence Center, Inc. opened its doors on October 29th, offering free services to students in kindergarten through third grade. BEE Learning Center, as it is known, is an after-school program that provides essential support in homework, math, and reading for K-3 grade students.

BEE Founder Jacquelyn Paulk Works with a Student. Mrs. Paulk completes an assessment with student Ro’chyah McNeal. BEE Learning Center provides individual assessments with each student several times during the academic year. The center also has a curriculum specialist on staff.

BEE’s founder and CEO, Jacquelyn Paulk, has developed a cohesive and integrated learning process for the community’s academically disadvantaged students. Its curriculum aligns with state and national standards and consists of practices that have been vetted through rigorous research and experiences, which is evidenced-based. It defines what students should understand, know and be able to do in reading and math at the conclusion of each grade level. BEE Learning Center provides the basis for effective instruction and provides assessments to determine the extent to which learning is achieved. It further provides special programs implemented to ensure that the needs of all students are met. This new program will once again be a resource for the community, building on the successful concepts Mrs. Paulk has developed over the years to empower hundreds of children.

BEE offers programs serving children and families, and engages families, schools and the community in educational partnerships. Tutoring programs include reading, math and homework assistance. Students also enjoy a nutritious snack in the afternoon, helping to keep them focused and energized for tutoring and homework assistance.
