Demetrius K. Jifunza To Speak At NAACP Men Of Valor Breakfast

Rev. Demetrius K. Jifunza will be the keynote speaker at the Sarasota NAACP’s Men of Valor Awards Breakfast on Saturday, June 1st at the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex. The breakfast begins at 8:30 a.m. Rev. Jifunza has become involved in several organizations that lend to his passion of helping others. He is the Vice President of the Sarasota County Branch NAACP, a member of the board of the Sarasota Ministerial Association, vice chair of CAN Community Health of Sarasota and a member of the board of the J.H. Neal Health Collaborative in Columbia, S.C. He is also Chapter President of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, an organization committed to ending the disenfranchisement and discrimination against people with convictions. Rev. Jifunza was the leading advocate and instrumental in passage of Amendment 4 which restores voting rights to more than 1 million people in the state of Florida who were previously convicted of felonies. Rev. Jifunza currently serves at Mt. Olive C.M.E. Church in Arcadia and is the Director of Social Justice and Human Concerns for the Florida Region, Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. He and his wife, Syreeta, have three children, Demetrius, Kayden and Journie. The 2019 Men of Valor honorees are Gregory Alexandreá, Jr., Fredd Atkins, Christopher Hannon, John Jones, Sr., Pat Lavender, Sr. and Brodrick “Brock” Waters.
