IBC HOLDS SUMMERWORK/CAREER BRUNCH

L – R: Elihu Wallace, Margie Woodson (Chairman), Kari Reed, Janine Austin, Laura Wallace (Executive Director), Elisha Gibson, Eddie Gibson, Ellenita Johnson, and Mozelle Fortune

Crisis, Inc. (IBC) recently held its Summer Work/Career Brunch Fundraiser at State College of Florida Library & Learning Center in Bradenton, FL. The purpose of the fundraiser was to hire/pay 10 students and 2 staff with a goal to raise $10,000. Summer jobs allow students to Get Ahead. A job can be a big boost to the rest of the student’s educational career, and it can serve them quite well during life after school. The sooner students can get a taste of the private sector, the further ahead of their peers they will be. They may even see areas that they can improve upon, thus tapping into leadership qualities and entrepreneurial spirit.

Summer jobs will build confidence. It is one of the first places that students can build their sense of identity and distinguish themselves from many of their peers. It opens a new world for them beyond the walls of a high school or the reach of their parents, and yes, that is very empowering. Summer jobs will allow students to learn new skills, give them chance to explore who they are, help them manage their own money, and manage time and obligations.
