By C.S. Howard
Rev. Frank Watson, Jr. will be installed as pastor at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church in Tallevast on Sunday, May 18, 2025. The installation service will begin at 4:00 p.m.
Rev. Watson was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Sarasota under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Albert Phillips, Sr. He was called into the ministry while at New Bethel 36 years.
He comes to Mt. Tabor after serving as pastor of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Tampa for 25 years.
Mt. Tabor had its beginnings at the turn of the century in 1909 in Tallevast. The church takes its name from a mountain – Mt. Tabor – in Galilee, traditionally known as the site of Jesus’ transfiguration. Over the years, the church has grown in grace and size. Its present building was erected in 1965 with remodeling and expansion taking place in 1993-1994 under the pastoralship of the late Rev. Ezell Patterson. Under Rev. Patterson’s leadership, numerous advances took place that lent to growth, church re-organization and establishment of protocols for the efficiency of church business.
Rev. Watson’s focus at Mt. Tabor will include becoming involved in t h e community and working with the youth. He is excited to serve Mt. Tabor and the Tallevast community. His favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6:
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding; in all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Mt. Tabor is located at 1703 Tallevast Road in Tallevast and the public is invited to the installation service.
