Suncoast Technical College Newtown Holds Graduation

Suncoast Technical College Newtown held their graduation recognition ceremony recently, with 13 students receiving their GED diplomas. Graduates were Caleb Calvert, Sydney Christensen, Jayden Dufault, Marquel Mathews, Elida Mendez, Samiah Myrick, Jayden Nguyen, Akleema Persaud, Nick Rentschler, Merri Tangney, Hailey West, Celeste Garcia and Kayla Ramirez. STC Newtown is located at 2400 Colson Avenue.

“The Suncoast Technical College Newtown on 2400 Colson Ave is truly a very special place to earn your GED,” said Susan Imperato, Adult General Education Instructor.

“What makes it special is that we have 21 volunteer tutors that work one on one with students. They make a big difference and truly make our school remarkable.”

Adult Education (GED) classes are open for students of all ages. The ages range from 1664 years. “I have single moms who are working, older students who are working and young 16 and 17 year olds who for one reason or another did not finish high school,” said Imperato. “The main goal of earning your GED is so you can continue on to the next level and work on earning a “Career in a Year” at our main campus or another college. Plus, students are realizing that they cannot get a decent job without their GED,” Imperato said.

Students must pass four individual tests to earn their GED – a math test, science test, RLA and social Studies test. “People are missing out on this private one-on one tutoring offered for free and we have a career coach to help them transition to the next level,” Imperato said.

“I feel we are the best kept secret here and after 16 years, most of Newtown does not know we are here!”

Imperato said. For additional information or to register, call 941350-0155. School starts again on August 11th.
