FAMU National Alumni Association Sarasota-Manatee Chapter Hosts 5th Annual Academic Signing Day and Send-Off Celebration
Bradenton, FL – The Florida A&M University National Alumni Association (FAMU NAA) Sarasota-Manatee Chapter proudly hosted its 5th Annual Academic Signing Day & Send-Off Celebration at the State College of Florida, honoring local high school seniors who have committed to continuing their educational journey at Florida A&M University or through the SCF-FAMU IGNITE 2+2 Program.
The annual celebration recognizes students for their academic achievements and their decision to become part of the Rattler family. The event brought together alumni, parents, family members, and community supporters to celebrate the students’ accomplishments while providing encouragement and guidance as they prepare for college.
Throughout the evening, FAMU alumni shared personal experiences and offered valuable advice on academic success, campus i nvolvement, financial responsibility, and making a successful transition to college life in Tallahassee. Parents also had the opportunity to connect with one another, build relationships, and establish a support network that will continue throughout their students’ collegiate journey.
“This event is about more than celebrating college acceptance,” said Chapter President Keenan Wooten. “It is about welcoming these students into the FAMUly, providing them with a strong support system, and ensuring they know they have an entire community cheering for their success.”
The Sarasota-Manatee Chapter recognized the following students during the ceremony: Nico Wharton – Booker High School; Taylor Flournoy – Palmetto High School; Aryam Pitts – Southeast High School; Kaleiyah Griggs – Southeast High School; Jared Francois – Palmetto High School; Joniya Dawes (current FAMU student) – Palmetto High School; and Ebony Phillips – Booker High School.
The chapter remains committed to supporting students before, during, and after their transition to college through mentorship, scholarships, recruitment, and alumni engagement.
