Get Workforce Ready at SCF

Press Release by State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota

A college degree or certificate from State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) can help you earn more money, enjoy greater job security and accomplish your career goals. Students at SCF are preparing to enter the workforce, change careers or earn promotions.

Graphic design, computer programming, alternative energy and paralegal/legal assisting are just a few of the options where you can gain the skills and knowledge to enter the workforce quickly. We have more than 30 certificate programs to choose from, and some can be completed in a single year. Even if you are happy in the field you work in, a certificate can help with career advancement.

Stephen Brelsford, a Spring 2021 graduate, has an associate degree but also completed an information technology analysis certificate to help him stand out in the job market. Kathleen Kinney, a student who works full-time for a local insurance agency, is working on a business operations specialist certificate to also raise her profile. You can hear from Kathleen, Stephen, and other successful students earning certificates at Programs: SCF.edu/Certificates.

Worth considering, full-time employees with an associate degree average more than $7,000 higher earnings than those without a college education. Over a 40-year career, that is a difference of more than $250,000!

SCF has degrees to get you hired in some of the quickest growing fields in Manatee and Sarasota counties. You will find SCF graduates working at some of the largest employers in the region, caring for patients at Manatee Memorial Hospital or Sarasota Memorial Hospital, teaching in local schools, serving the community as police officers and fire fighters, and managing projects for general contractors like Willis Smith Construction or NDC Construction.

Hands-on experience gained at SCF is an important part of turning education into workforce readiness, and many students participate in rewarding internships. Rocco Pennella, a 2019 graduate, interned with Cutler Associates Inc. during the construction of SCF’s Library & Learning Center. He didn’t just gain experience and make connections to launch his career, but also put his skills to work building his own home.

Maybe your goal is to achieve a four-year degree from a university, in which case we offer Associate in Arts degrees transferable to any Florida public university, or you can stick around and earn one of five bachelor’s degrees offered at SCF, including early childhood education, health services administration, nursing, public safety and emergency management, and supervision and management.

Whether you’re ready to start college or you’re still on the fence, pay us a visit at one of our campuses in Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch or Venice, or check us out online at SCF.edu. Our College and Career Success Coaches are available to help you reach your goals. We look forward to seeing you soon.
