Sharon Jefferson

Sarasota – filmmaker, Lewis Jones is known for his documentaries that portray life in various
urban cities for over 20 years. According to Jones, his goal is to bring more awareness of urban
life as there is a shortage of media outlets that will tell the stories of urban communities.
Lewis Jones has promoted many musical artists such as Rick Ross however, Jones’
documentaries are not only limited to the music industry. Church Kroniklz document local
churches featuring choirs and preaching without it being scripted. Kid Kroniklz highlights youth
activities throughout the community.

Celebrating the black community and black culture will not be complete without celebrating the
black family. As Father’s Day is approaching, Lewis Jones is in the process of launching The
Kyng and the Prince. This documentary gives a perspective of black fatherhood to show people
a more positive view that is often missed in mainstream media.
Mainstream media perpetuates a negative view of black fatherhood. The assumption is that
black fathers are not involved in their children’s lives.

The Kyng and the Prince hopes to debunk the myths about black fatherhood. This
documentary aims to inspire those who struggle with fatherhood to become better fathers to
their children. Black fathers have a huge influence on the development of children. It has been
said that mothers nurture their children, but fathers give them their identity. If our children are
to overcome the challenges of life to reach their highest potential, they must understand who
they are. A child’s identity is a gift from their father.
