ZETA PHI BETA SORORITY CELEBRATES FINER WOMANHOOD

            Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated celebrated its unique principle of Finer Womanhood during the month of March, joining chapters across the United States and overseas in celebrating and rededicating themselves to the principles of Zeta.  The Gamma Rho Zeta Chapter honored several of their members for outstanding work in the chapter, as well as those who exemplify Zeta Phi Beta’s principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood.  The Presidential Awards for Zeta Principles were presented in these categories.

The principle of Scholarship recognition went to Johncyna McRae and Briana Nelson. Mrs. McRae serves as chapter historian and is the director of the Five Pearls of Excellence Inc., the charitable arm of the chapter. Ms. Nelson serves as second vice president and is chair for the Scholarship and Finer Womanhood committees.  The award for Service went to Shavonne Simon, who serves as the chapter chaplain and is founder and director of Truly Valued, Inc, a nonprofit program serving youth and families.

Sisterhood recognitions went to Jacqueline Houston and Janae Pompey-Hodo. Mrs. Houston is the immediate past assistant treasurer and is a board member of the Five Pearls of Excellence Inc. Ms. Pompey-Hodo is active on several committees including Sisterhood and ZHOPE (Zetas Helping Other People Excel). The Finer Womanhood recognition was presented to Beverly G. Bryant. Mrs. Bryant is the immediate past treasurer of the sorority, a position she served in for 22 years.  She is currently the financial secretary.

The 2022 Zeta of the Year was Mrs. Jan Pompey-Hodo, who currently serves as the assistant corresponding secretary for the chapter and is active on several committees. She is a retired care manager for the State of Florida.

The Gamma Rho Zeta chapter was chartered on June 5, 1948. The current chapter president is Dr. Paula Beard.
