LOCAL ARTIST NEVAEH THOMPSON FEATRURED ART EXHIBITION AT NEWTOWN LIBRARY

Nevaeh Thompson is a talented artist whose art work will be featured at Sarasota North Library in Newtown, which opened November 13th and continues to December 10th with thirty paintings to be displayed in the lobby. Nevaeh began her art career as a toddler at the age of four and her talent and passion for self-expression was evident from the start. Now that Nevaeh has reached the age of twelve her art work is sought after and praised. There is always a back story to an artist’s launch to the drive behind beginning their career and Nevaeh’s is unique. Nevaeh had the challenge of receiving the medical diagnosis of Hyperactivity and Attention Disorder at two years of age. The decision was made to start her on medications which were unusual at such a young age but needed and results were attained to bring calm to her ability to concentrate but the physical motion and constant activity was ongoing. But what was yet to be uncovered and discovered in this brilliant, sweet and active girl was her ability to take up pencil, paint brush and create movement and expression on paper and canvas. Her art work even as a young child was able to move all those who saw it. Nevaeh said this about her art,

“Art can be anything. I want to inspire people. Art means not to be afraid of anything. My art helped me face how I was feeling when kids bullied me in school asking me if I took my meds and they weren’t being nice when they asked.”

Nevaeh described her art and paintings as a way for her to express herself as well as a way to encourage others to learn to overcome their fears and to express themselves even if they don’t have ADHD. Nevaeh is now in the seventh grade and achieves “A” grades. She is not only an artist, but Nevaeh runs her own business selling her art work. She said,

“If I can run my own business at the age of twelve, then anyone can do anything they want to do.”

Dee Rivera, Nevaeh’s mother said her daughter

“understands debits, credits, expenses and runs her own business. She’s sold about ten paintings so far and was a featured artist at Café Barbossa in Sarasota. What makes me proud most is she is absorbing the information and tools to build for her future.”

Among her accomplishments Nevaeh has been the featured artist at the Sarasota Film Festival in 2017 and the youngest person to be involved in the Facing Mental Illness Art Program, featuring her art work. This young woman has proved and continues to prove that what one may see as an obstacle is actually talent, passion and the strength of creativity to lead one into a wonderful life, future and career and to inspire millions which no doubt Nevaeh Thompson will do and continue to do. Be sure to check out this very talented young artist at the exhibition at the Newtown Library.
