MLK COMMITTEE TO HOST AN “EVENING ON THE BAY”

The Sarasota MLK Celebration Committee is planning an “Evening on the Bay” on Sunday, May 23, 2021, featuring a show and music by the incomparable Soul Sensations. The event will be held at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, downtown Sarasota campus, 1534 Mound Street, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The event will benefit the MLK Scholarship Fund for its 2022 scholarship recipients. Scholarships for 2021 graduating seniors will be presented at the event.

The Sarasota community has celebrated the birthday of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. since 1981 and is one of the oldest MLK celebrations in this county. “With the pandemic last year, we were unable to hold our annual fundraising activities including the MLK memorial breakfast that benefitted our scholarship fund,” said Jetson Grimes.

“We know the importance of being able to provide scholarships to deserving students in our community and to help them pursue their educational goals.”

The Soul Sensations are established professionals in their respected fields who have come together to join talents, skills and hearts to bring you the best of the Golden Age of Rhythm and Blues music that America has given the world, said Dr. Randall Morgan, the group’s founder.

“In addition, our musicians are consummate professionals. Having traveled the world, been conservatory trained and/or played along with some of the biggest names in the music business, they would bring to your event a professional deportment on and off stage, along with being individuals of respectable character.”
