School held its ninth annual Athletic Hall of Fame Induction on Friday, August 31st. The Athletic Hall of Fame (AHOF) honors the lifetime achievements of individuals and teams who help to create the Riverview legacy. The Hall of Fame was started in 2009. Honorees were recognized in the categories of service, staff, player and team. The service award went to Dr. Aaron Mattes and was presented by John Sprague. The staff inductee was Pat Bliss, presented by Jessika Ward. The player inductee was Shantia Grace, presented by Art Larkins and Cayll Smith and the team inductee was the 1995 competitive cheer team, pre rep sented by team member Allison Aidlin Stottlemyer After the induction ceremony, the honorees were introduced prior to the Rams’ game against Venice High School. Grace graduated from Riverview in 2005 and still holds the school’s career scoring leader – boys and girls with 2,446 points. She was named most valuable player each year and was rated as one of the top 75 players in the country following her senior year. After high school, she went on to the University of South Florida where she was the Bulls’ career assists leader and No. 2 all-time scorer, helping guide the team to their first NCAA Tournament appearance. Grace is in her second year as head coach for the Booker High School girls varsity basketball team. The Athletic Hall of Fame was started in 2009 by Coach James Ward along with coaches and alumni to celebrate individuals and teams who have made valuable contributions to Riverview, drawn from all age groups and eras. Its mission is to honor and perpetuate the memory of all former Riverview High School students, coaches and associated persons who have brought pride and distinction to the school system, to Sarasota and to themselves. Coach Ward is currently the Athletic Director at Booker Middle School. Rod Dragash is the Athletic Director at Riverview.
