Tracy Sanders Inducted Into Manatee High School Hall Of Honor

BY RITA SMITH

Congrats to Tracy Sanders on being inducted into the Manatee High School Hall of Honor recently. A 1984 graduate of Manatee High School, Sanders was a quarterback for the Hurricanes and led them to their first State Championship in 1983. After graduating, he went on to play with Florida State University for four years, afterwards played with the Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Storm. He returned to Manatee High as a coach, where he currently works. Other inductees included Mildred Emmelhainz (Miss E), Gary Trapp, George Wallace, and Thierry Chau. Miss E, 1932 alum, who was awarded posthumously, was a member of WWII Navy Waves and started the former drill team at the school.

Gary Trapp, a 1963 alum, led Manatee to State Champs in 1963 in baseball. George Wallace, a 1957 alum, played on the school’s basketball team when they reached the State finals. Thierry Chau, a 1988 alum, was a 2-time State champion wrestler, and had a 59 match winning streak. There was standing room only at the Pier 22 Restaurant, with many alumnae, family members, coaches, teachers, and current students attending to witness the historic event. Special recognition was given to Coach Kinnan and Coach Shannon who coached during Sanders reign at Manatee High. Congrats to all the inductees, an honor well deserved.
