TYSON WARD NAMED TO ALL AMERICAN TEAM; ALL SUMMIT TEAM

Tyson Christopher Ward from North Dakota State University has been named to the Lou Henson Mid-Major 2019-20 All American Team, and to the All Summit League First Team and All Tournament Team.  Ward will graduate from NDSU on May 16th with a degree in Business Finance.  He is the son of Chris Ward and grandson of Janice Ward and the late Raymond Ward of Tallevast.

Tyson ended his career with NDSU Bisons averaging 16.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.  The Tampa, Florida native averaged 19.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in Summit League play, shooting 59 percent overall and 49 percent from three-point range in conference games. He was one of only two players to rank in the league’s top 10 in scoring, rebounding and assists. Ward scored 20-plus points in six straight games to close the season. In the Summit League Tournament, he averaged 21.3 points and 7.3 rebounds, shooting 8-of-16 (50 percent) from three-point range. Ward is the only player in NDSU history with more than 1,500 points, 700 rebounds and 250 assists in his career.

NDSU finished the year with a record of 25-8, sweeping the Summit League’s regular season and tournament championships all while earning their second bid in a row to the NCAA Tournament. The Bison have earned four NCAA Tournament berths in the past seven seasons.  As a junior, Ward played in 34 games and made 28 starts.  He was ranked 2nd on the team with 12.4 points per game and 27.7 minutes per game.  He led the Bison with an average of 6.2 rebounds per contest and shot 49 percent overall and 75 percent at the free throw line.  As a sophomore, he played in all 32 games, making 26 starts for the Bison.  He led the team in rebounding with 5.9 boards per game and ranked second on the team with 11.8 points and 2.6 assists per contest.  He was named to the Hoops in the Heartland All-Tournament Team and Sun Bowl Invitational All-Tournament Team.  As a freshman, Tyson played in all 30 games, averaging 19.2 minutes per contest. He had six games of double-figure scoring and pulled down a season-best eight rebounds on three different occasions.

Ward and his teammate, Vinnie Shahid, earned All-District recognition from the National Association of Basketball Coaches. This is only the third time that a Bison-duo has earned all-district recognition in the same season. A native of Tampa, Ward graduated from Tampa Prep in 2016 and was named All-Tampa Bay by the Tampa Bay Times, 1st team All-Hillsborough County by the Tampa Tribune as well as 3A All State 1st Team for his senior year.  He is preparing for the next stage of his career as a pro and has just signed with Andre Buck of Arete Sports Agency. Tyson will head to Las Vegas to train with Joe Abunasa of IMPACT Training as soon as things get back to normal.
